Fri 1 May 2026, 9.30am - 10.30am
Booking for this activity's session will end 2 days before the start time.
This Taster KidsKnit Session offer, is open to children who have not previously attended any KidsKnit classes. They will join our regular KidsKnitters and so can also get a flavour of the activities offered.
For new attendees, it is a free session, giving your child a little chance to see if they would like yarn-craft/knitting and sewing, especially if they are not sure of what is involved.
If they enjoy this Taster KidsKnit session, and wish to continue, then you have the option to book them onto the remaining 2 sessions.
Below is the information if attending the full block of KidsKnit sessions, to give an overview of what to expect.
This Taster is a drop-off session and takes place in the lovely dedicated craft room at the Shires.
You’ll be amazed at what you can make with a couple of sticks, or knitting needles, and a ball of yarn!
Button Lane brings you KidsKnit..
KidsKnit provides fun and exciting knitting classes for boys and girls of mainly primary school age and up to Yer 7 (Year 2 through to Year 7), from Newbie to expert!
Knitting encourages creativity, increases ability to concentrate, is beneficial to maths skills and provides relaxation in a hectic day.
It’s a life-long hobby with endless possibilities for the creative imagination and an opportunity to make friends, share, and socialise with like-minded people.
From simple projects with chunky yarn and needles, through to following patterns and inventing your own items, KidsKnit has something for everyone.
Learn to knit the KidsKnit way!
Children will be guided through knitting projects matched to their skill-set, collecting stickers as they progress, for projects completed and skills accomplished.
Along the way, they will also have the opportunity to learn about different yarns and try out crafts; pom-pom making, weaving, plaiting (to name but a few), and of course essential sewing and decorating skills.
Our younger and/or new KidsKnitters will have a strong focus on the yarn skills, such as wool winding etc. to gain confidence and dexterity. They will have a gentle introduction to the art of knitting, with plenty of support, as appropriate. As with all skills, children will take different time spans in gaining independence and confidence, so don’t worry if things seem to be moving slowly.
We do aim to help each child complete one main piece per half-term, but some may manage more or less, depending on what they’re making, their speed and what other things we are making alongside the knitting. Expect your child to progress that little bit more slowly, the younger they are when they start knitting.
Some of our KidsKnitters get really bitten by the knitting bug and in which case, we sometimes encourage them to have a “home project” and a “KidsKnit” project.
All materials are provided along the way, such as a variety of yarns, buttons, beads, felt, stuffing, alternative sized needles to borrow, and so-on.
Upon fully joining (excluding Taster sessions), each child receives as an Introductory Offer, a free project bag and a pair of chunky 10mm wooden knitting needles (to keep), ready to start the Newbie activities.
Later on, children also receive a KidsKnit folder to keep KidsKnit patterns in and their skills/project stickers.
Join Blue Bear, Cotton Tail and Knitty Kitty in all the knitting fun!
